Job overview
Explosives experts are responsible for the development, production, storage, transport and documentation of explosives.

What do people do in this job?
Generally they carry out inspections to make sure that all safety measures are met, and they destroy and dispose of surplus explosive substances.

Otherwise, the nature of the work will depend on the type of organisation to which the expert belongs:-

The Police Force - will have its own specialised unit, responsible for safeguarding lives and property.

The members of this unit undertake tasks such as the destruction of abandoned explosives, the handling and safe removal of suspicious articles and bomb disposal.

The Army - Explosives and ammunition are used by the army in the course of their duties.

Ministry of Mines?
?- one of the responsibilities of the government explosives experts here is to inspect safety and health regulations at mines.

They do not do blasting themselves.

Regular inspections are necessary to check whether regulations on the use of explosives are fulfilled.

For example, blasting is done only at certain times so that mineworkers are not unnecessarily exposed to fumes.

Occupational Safety? ?- safeguarding lives and property during the manufacturing phase of explosives. ?Inspectors carry out regular inspections.

Explosives experts must be responsible and accurate in their work because explosives are dangerous to work with.

What qualifications are needed?
Normally good school-leaving results in science subjects, preferably strengthened by technical college certificates.
