Project Manager
Job overview
A project manager organises all the sections in a project - whatever its size or composition - and makes sure that they run smoothly and simultaneously.
What do people do in this job?
A project manager has the vital responsibility of ensuring that the project is completed on time.
What kinds of people are suitable for this career?
Project managers must be very good communicators, able to put instructions and concepts across clearly and strong enough to handle workplace conflicts and reduce outbreaks of internal rivalry that could disrupt an entire project.
They must have the stamina to work under pressure and above all know how to manage time - their own and that of the whole team.
What qualifications are needed?
There are, as yet, no specific qualifications, although project management is beginning to be seen and taught as a separate discipline.
As managers are largely recruited for the construction industry, architecture and software development, the qualifications sought will tend to be related to those industries.
But other industries, like entertainment and the world of fashion are now looking for specialised project managers.
