Police officers are the protectors of our society.
What do people do in this job?
Their duties are wide and include maintaining law and order and combating crime, at the same time as establishing good relations with the public.
They are called in for emergency services e.g. providing safety at public gatherings, carrying out rescue operations in disaster situations, enforcing traffic laws etc.
They often have to be on duty for long periods at a time, depending on particular situations.
What kinds of people are suitable for this career?
Police officers must be fit and strong, for their work can be physically demanding.
For example they may have to restrain violent people or operate in difficult terrain.
At the same time they should have a sense of justice and be able to assess situations and people as objectively as possible.
They need to have keen powers of observation.
What qualifications are needed?
Good school-leaving results as a basis for the in-service training that they will undergo.
