Knitters process cotton, wool or other similar forms of yarn, natural or man-made, into clothing, blankets, scarves or other articles.
What do people do in this job?
Knitters in a factory use mostly circular knitting-machines in the production of clothing, curtains, dress material, bedding and material for many other uses.
One knitter can operate four or five machines when polyester yarn is used, and two to three when working with cotton or wool.
In factories where complete knitted garments are manufactured, many of the tasks performed by knitters are similar to operations performed by garment workers in the textile industry, such as making buttonholes, sewing on buttons, machine sewing, cutting and other related operations.
What kinds of people are suitable for this career?
The work is repetitive and operators must be able to perform the same operations day after day, but team-work is essential and operators must therefore be able to maintain positive human relations
