Domestic workers clean and do other general work, mostly in private houses.
What do people do this job?
They clean dishes, cutlery and other kitchenware and also see to it that linen and dirty clothing are washed and ironed weekly.
The house must be cleaned daily.
Carpets are cleaned with the aid of a vacuum cleaner and floors have to be washed and polished when necessary.
The use of a washing machine, tumble-drier and dishwasher, if available, make the duties considerably easier.
Domestic workers often prepare food, for example sandwiches, salads and dessert or even a complete meal.
In some cases, domestic workers have to look after the employer's children, the aged, sick and frail as well as the disabled when the employers are not at home.
Sometimes domestic workers have to care for pets and feed them daily.

Domestic workers need to be physically fit, since the work can be very demanding.
Friendliness, a calm disposition, reliability and helpfulness are assets.
What qualifications are needed?
There are no formal qualifications.
A good reference from a previous employer is a big advantage.
