Automotive trimmers upholster seats and line the roof, floor and door panels of cars.
What do people do in this job?
Trimmers use scissors, needles, tongs, hammers, screwdrivers and special sewing machines.
After the car's seats and handles have been carefully removed, the trimmers mark and cut material according to the patterns and sketches given to them.
They must choose the right type of material for every part of the vehicle.
After having completed the upholstery and lining, they have to see that all hinges and handles are replaced and that the material is waterproofed where necessary.
They must also ensure that the seats of the vehicle are re-fitted in the correct position.
Trimmers work indoors.
It is essential that the work be done in a clean workshop as they work with new materials.

They must be reasonably strong to be able to pull material tightly over the frames.
They must be able to work accurately and be patient in handling small details.
Trimming in large motor car factories today is done mostly by machine, but panel-beating firms, employ trimmers.
