What will you learn? (the syllabus)

This is what you’ll learn in the Master Designer in Children's Wear course:

  • Creating, designing and manipulating patterns
  • Children’s growth patterns and characteristics
  • Measuring techniques, proportionate and direct measurement
  • Tolerance for pattern markings including effect of grain line in design
  • Infant’s basic cuts including the straight shift dress
  • Lines and characteristics of lines in infants and their effects
  • Age and style, pleat and pleat formation and fullness context
  • Matching techniques, trims for decoration and their application
  • Fabric rating effects and colour, print and colour schemes



What exams will you write?

Exams are held monthly. You’ll register for the exams with the Speciss College Exams Officer.

Please talk to the Exams Officer to find out when exam fees are due.

 



When and where are the classes and what are the fees?

Lessons are offered at different times on different campuses, with some lessons being held during the day, and others in the evening or at weekends.

Often the same course can be studied at a variety of different times, so you can choose the one which is more convenient to you.

You’ll get your personal timetable when you register at Speciss College.

 



What about books and stationery?

You’ll need to bring your own fabric and patterns to your classes. For your convenience, we have a range of useful items, such as brown paper for pattern making, scissors, and tape measures at the Speciss bookshops.
